Dress Code

Student Attire for 2010-2011

Powers Catholic does not have a uniform but we do have an expectation that what students wear to school is distinguishable from what they might wear for “play.” Student attire is always to be neat and modest. The school administration reserves the right to determine the suitability of clothing, makeup or excessive accessorizing for school and school activities.

Young men are asked to wear: full length dress slacks, docker-style, or cargo pants; a collared dress shirt, polo shirt with a collar, turtle neck, crew neck or v-neck sweater; and shoes. Thermal shirts are not considered to be a sweater. Hair is to be neat, clean, and combed. Young men are to be clean shaven. Regarding modesty; Young men are to wear their pants no lower than their hip bone and their underwear is not to be showing.

Young women are asked to wear dress slacks, Capri pants, docker-style, or cargo pants; oxford style collared dress blouse, polo shirt with a collar, turtle neck or crew neck sweater. A collared dress code shirt/blouse must be worn underneath a v-neck sweater; dresses or skirts with a hem line at most an index card length (5 inches) from the top of the knee, and shoes (heel height no higher than 3 inches). Hair is to be neat, clean, and combed. For clarification purposes: modesty is what we are striving for: we are expecting young ladies to have their blouses and polo shirts buttoned up to the collar bone. The cami that is commonly worn under tops will not be the measure for modesty sake. The school reserves the right to establish whether or not a student’s clothing is modest.

Facial piercings (i.e. eyebrow, lip, nose, etc.) are not allowed. Pierced ears are allowed. Tattoos must be covered at all times.

Students may wear: Powers fleece or sweatshirts in school colors (navy blue, orange, white or grey). The Powers logo must be clearly visible. These items may not be torn or ripped. A collared dress code shirt must be worn underneath zip up apparel.

Students may not wear: T-shirts, sweatshirts, undershirts, sleeveless tops, jeans, torn, ripped or unhemmed clothing, sweat pants, overly tight or baggy clothing, hats, head scarves, flip-flops, sport sandals or any other item or style of clothing that may be announced at school as not appropriate. Exposed midriff or exposed underwear are not acceptable.

During the first and fourth quarters students may wear dress or cargo style shorts. Shorts must pass the 5 inch index card rule. Dress sandals are allowed - not flip flops or sport sandals.
